OUR METHODS OF ROOFING

The most popular question we get all the time is gun nailing your new roof as good has hand nailing.  At Scro’s Roofing Company we 100% only believe in gun nailing and here is why.  First and foremost our entire crew is properly trained on using the tool.  We use the highest quality Roofing nail guns on the market today.  But the most important part is the nail itself and the nail placement.  We believe that the gun coiled nail has barbs like a fish hook that when shot into the new shingles it grabs the wood Roof deck and will not back out causing nail pops.  We also use a Six nail pattern which rates our new Roofs for 130 mph winds.  We highly monitor our air pressure and make sure to properly drive the nails straight and flush.  It’s worked for us for years without any issues, why change?

Don’t believe that hand nailing is better than gun nailing!  It is a myth, our gun nailed installed new Roofs are superior and meet all manufacture specifications.  Our crew is properly trained on the crucial placement of the nails on the double blue lines.  Our new Roofs are inspected as they are being installed to assure we meet these requirements.  Hand nailed roof installations was somewhat of a concern back when they used 1″x4″ wood slats for roof decking.  The hand nail would be felt by the installer as it was driven in between the joints of the deck boards.  Trust us not one single roof we have ever installed failed due to our gun nailed roofing methods.  We back our new Roofs with a TEN Year Labor Warranty!

Why we use Squirrel Safe Plumbing Pipe Flashing’s.  Cause in some cases squirrel’s eat plumbing pipe flashing’s all kinds plastic, lead etc. We have seen them eat the back of aluminum gutters, gutter guards, wood fascia boards and other wood trim and siding.  If you have a squirrel problem seek a professional to have them removed.

Do squirrels eat “Lead” Plumbing Pipe Flashing’s?  Yes, they also chew through plastic and rubber ones too.  We have recently went to “Squirrels Safe” pipe flashing’s that also have a neoprene seal with a 20 Year Warranty.  We also have seen squirrels eat the aluminum gutters, shingles and many other exterior building materials.

We install our new Roofs with “Cut Valley’s” this is what it looks like and this is why we think it is the best installation for a valley.  First we install a 36″ wide Ice & Water Shield in all Valleys. We then install the lower Roof or lower pitched Roof first and run it 24″ up under the opposing Roof.  We then install the other Roof over that valley, snap a line and make a clean straight cut.  This allows the water to shed faster and not get the heavy thick woven valley problem.

We install Ice & Water Shield in All Valley’s, Where Roofs meet walls, Dormers, Roof Penetrations and low sloped Roofs 3/12 and less.

Sometimes when we tear off a Roof we discover that the house has 3/8″ thick plywood and worse if it was installed over 24″ on center Roof rafters.  The solution is that we often have to re-deck the entire Roof with an additional layer of 1/2″ OSB and stagger the existing layout which now gives us a stable and solid Roof deck to attach your new Roof to.

We use “PALISADE” Synthetic Under layment on 90% of all of our new Roofs.  PALISADE  surface color was specifically engineered to reduce the effects of solar radiation absorption (heat up) and glare simultaneously. Utilizing KOOL BLUE technology, PALISADE was designed to produce a synthetic underlayment product that has both low solar energy absorption and low glare. But high reflectance can also mean high glare. The surface layer of PALISADE has been engineered with a unique low glare blue color and roughened microstructure which scatters the incident light, thus producing a diffuse reflectance, and low glare.
