The most popular question we get all the time is gun nailing your new roof as good has hand nailing. Well first let me say this; both are accepted methods per the manufactures of the shingles. The only banned method is staples. Back in the early 90’s there were a few fly by night contractors stapling on new roof shingles. That was a disaster waiting to happen. At Scro's Roofing Company we offer both our Hand Nailed “Signature Roof” and our Air Gun Nailed “Insurance Claim Roof”. Most Insurance related projects are Gun Nailed. Due to the insurance carrier not paying the extra cost for a Hand Nailed new roof installation. For 23 Years we never had not one issue with any of our new roof installations, Never! So rest assure if we Gun Nail or Hand Nail your new roof it will be done Right!. We use 1.25″ Electro Galvanized Roofing Nails made in the USA! If you have any further questions about our methods of nailing contact us at (919) 461-0937
At Scro's Roofing Company we are proud to still offer our Optional and Upgraded Hand Nailed “Signature Roof” installation. 90% of our new Roofs are installed nail by nail, by hand. Yep that’s right the superior way to install new roofs. Our new roofs meet and usually exceed all manufacture specifications. We use a 4-6 nail pattern on each shingle which meets the Manufacture 4 nail minimum required for the warranty.
We use 1.25″ Electro Galvanized Roofing Nails made in the USA! Our new roofing crews are certified and properly trained on the critical placement of the nails on the crucial nail zones or nailing strips. Our new Roofs are inspected as they are being installed to assure we meet or exceed these requirements. Hand nailed roof installations began back in the old days when they used 1″x4″ and 1″x6″ wood slats for roof decking. The hand nail would be felt by the roofer as it was driven in between the joints of the deck boards. Today we still offer the optional upgraded hand nail method. We have the best experienced and highly trained roofers with years of roofing knowledge to bring you the best quality roofing installation, hands down. We back our new Roofs with an Optional GAF 25-Year Golden Pledge Labor Warranty!
Why we use Squirrel Safe Plumbing Pipe Flashing’s. Cause in some cases squirrel’s eat plumbing pipe flashing’s all kinds plastic, lead etc. We have seen them eat the back of aluminum gutters, gutter guards, wood fascia boards and other wood trim and siding. If you have a squirrel problem seek a professional to have them removed.
Do squirrels eat “Lead” Plumbing Pipe Flashing’s? Yes, they also chew through plastic and rubber ones too. We have recently went to “Squirrels Safe” pipe flashing’s that also have a neoprene seal with a 20 Year Warranty. We also have seen squirrels eat the aluminum gutters, shingles and many other exterior building materials.
We install our new Roofs with “Cut Valley’s” this is what it looks like and this is why we think it is the best installation for a valley. First we install a 36″ wide Ice & Water Shield in all Valleys. We then install the lower Roof or lower pitched Roof first and run it 24″ up under the opposing Roof. We then install the other Roof over that valley, snap a line and make a clean straight cut. This allows the water to shed faster and not get the heavy thick woven valley problem.
We install GAF WeatherWatch Ice & Water Shield in All Valley’s, Where Roofs meet walls, Dormers, Chimney’s, Roof Penetrations and low sloped Roofs 3/12 and less. We also offer Optional Ice & Water Shield installed at all Roof Eaves. Call for Pricing. Not Required in North Carolina.
Sometimes when we tear off a Roof we discover that the house has 3/8″ thick plywood and worse if it was installed over 24″ on center Roof rafters. The solution is that we often have to re-deck the entire Roof with an additional layer of 1/2″ OSB and stagger the existing layout which now gives us a stable and solid Roof deck to attach your new Roof to.
Roof Deck Protection should help protect your home and reduce trapped moisture at the same time (amazingly, most synthetic underlayments do NOT!). It provides a critical extra layer of protection between your shingles and your roof deck — to help prevent wind-driven rain (or water from other sources) from infiltrating under your shingles and causing damage to your roof structure or to the inside of your home. In addition, premium-quality roof deck protection will:
- Help reduce trapped moisture from inside your attic, allowing it to escape (to help prevent structural decay, mold, and mildew)
- Provide longer-lasting leak protection than conventional “felts” (which can rot or become brittle before your shingles reach the end of their useful life)
- Lie flatter, so your shingles will lie flat and uniform Deck-Armor™ Premium Breathable Roof Deck Protection is a key part of the GAF Lifetime Roofing System and has even earned the prestigious Good Housekeeping Seal.
Scro's Roofing Company is proud to be a GAF Master Elite® Certified roofing contractor (GAF ID: ME40887). Only a roofing company with this certification can offer customers the GAF Golden Pledge® 50-year warranty, the most powerful and substantial warranty in the entire roofing industry. Because of GAF’s stringent standards, only 2% of all roofing contractors have qualified as Master Elite contractors! Choosing a GAF Master Elite contractor is your assurance that you’ll be dealing with a quality, reputable and dependable professional roofing company.
We had significant hail damage due to the May 2016 hail storm in Cary, and warded off all the storm chasers that came through our area for 2 months after. I called Scro’s Roofing after the insurance adjusted had written off the roof, and they worked us into their busy schedule. Amazing job done by an amazing and hard-working crew. I was impressed by the way they used tarps to protect the landscaping around the house, and Patricia was pretty particular about cleaning up after the crew. Danny was a pleasure to work with, and he provided several improvements to our roof like a installing a chimney cricket and ridge vents. We used Moire black shingles and the roof looks...
In life you get what you pay for and this is certainly true with Scro’s Roofing. There are so many “fly be night” roofing companies out there who do not have the long standing customer service and support that a local roofing company can offer. Everyone should take the time to educate themselves about the roofing process and the track record of the company, as this is a very larger investment and an area where you don’t want to cut corners. The team at Scro’s Roofing provided me with many educational links and never pressured me into a sale. They wanted to ensure that I fully understood the process and trusted that I would make an intelligent decision. This sharing...
Scro’s Roofing installed a new roof on our home and everything went exactly as planned and scheduled. The installation crew covered all our plants and deck when removing the roof and then cleaned up perfectly when the job was done. We were kept informed all along the job from start to finish so we knew how and when everything would be done. I’ve never experienced a contractor, a company or an owner like Danny who worked with us on every detail. Further, we had gotten several other quotes with Scro’s being the best. This project couldn’t have been done more smoothly… We greatly appreciate Danny the owner and Sarah our scheduling contact. They both were there for all and every...
We just had our roof done by Scro’s Roofing, and we are very happy with the results. Danny and his office were very helpful in answering all of my questions. I did a good bit of research beforehand, and after talking with Danny, I had a lot of confidence that they are up to date on best practices and latest materials. In particular, I liked that they hand nail the shingles, use a synthetic underlayment instead of tar paper, install a drip edge, and provide a 10-year labor warranty. The thing about getting a new roof is that most people may not find out whether the installer did a bad job or used inferior materials for 5-10 years when they...
The big hail storm of May 2, 2016 did extensive damage to our roof (and Leaf-Guard gutters as well). Our insurance company appraised the roof and said it all needed to be replaced. My first choice was again Scro’s Roofing. I was not about to use one of the “storm chasers” that descended on our neighborhood like carpetbaggers from who knows where. Danny, the owner of Scro’s Roofing looked up my record from seven years ago and was able to give me an estimate almost immediately from the information he already had on file. Their estimate was within a couple percent of what our insurance had already written a check which made the decision to go with Scro’s Roofing again...
I had a great experience working with Danny and his team. Danny even recommended a less expensive roofing product based on our needs. Sarah was so helpful and accommodating throughout the process. I wish all home repairs/renovations were this easy and professional. A wonderful company to work with!
